Detroit Shipping Company- The One Stop Shop

The Venue

As a college athlete and local my parents love coming to support me at my games. A tradition is finding local places to eat after and enjoy some family time. We love to change it up for the most part, but the most recent time we were having trouble deciding on a spot. That’s when I remembered the Detroit Shipping Company.

The Detroit Shipping Company is a newly created food institution in Midtown Detroit. It consists of 6 different restaurants all under one roof who share a common area and a large full-service bar. The venue makes the place, serving as a food hall/beer garden all in one. It has cafeteria style seating areas and is 2 stories in size making it perfect to pop in grab a bite and enjoy the communal atmosphere.

Recently our culture has made the unfortunate choice to prioritize all things private and secluded. Post Covid era has made restaurant goers into Door Dash gremlins and UberEATS trolls creating a normalcy of eating alone and at home. Well Detroit Shipping Company is a little slice of tradition in this dystopian food world we live in.

The venue allows for all walks of life to congregate and eat quality food and have quality drinks. It is truly a hidden gem, and deserves more attention.

The Options

With six different food stalls, boring goes out the window. The first spot is all burgers. Quality beef with interesting combos of topping is exactly what makes Motor Burger stand out. With tons of tasty options its sure to entice the burger lovers.

Next is the Nepali snack stand Momo Cha. This dumpling house offers a taste of central Asia in the form of smaller finger foods which pair perfectly with a night of drinks and friends. With a wide array of different dumpling flavors, you can have your fun picking out what sounds best to you.

Then is the famous Thai spot. While being mostly modern takes on Thai food like the Thai fries, it still incorporates traditional flavors and tastes. Don’t expect your generic pad Thai but do try the fried chicken bowl. This spot heats up your mouth giving you the perfect excuse to extinguish the flame with an ice-cold brew from the bar.

The last three spots speak for themselves. A bomb taco joint that incorporates all of Mexico’s flavor will leave you feeling like you’re in Southwest Detroit rather than Midtown. Right next to it is a Halal Mediterranean joint serving up all the tastes of the middle east from shawarma to tabooli, it’ll send you right to Dearborn. Lastly is an amazingly fresh and flavorful sushi joint on the second floor. This place pounds out delectable roles for all taste buds to enjoy.

Food Vibes and Community

The Detroit Shipping Company provides a feeling that’s been lost over the years. As I mentioned before, humans have become more isolated than ever. This institution is trying to change that and bring back a traditional food hall feel with extremely modern and diverse options.

The Detroit Shipping Company provides a place to enjoy your experience with strangers and hopefully make some friends. The venue has something for everyone and allows you to step out of your comfort zone in any way you feel you can. From different flavors to different people, it can all be found in one spot, Detroit Shipping Company.
